Baptism Devotional: Day One
Every day this week, I will be sharing a baptism devotional along with some scripture. Take time to read the devotional each day, reflect on the scripture, and spend some time in prayer, preparing yourself for baptism this Sunday.
Day 1: Matthew 3:13-17
“Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. But John didn’t want to baptize him. ‘I am the one who needs to be baptized by you,’ he said, ‘so why are you coming to me?’ But Jesus said, ‘It must be done, because we must do everything that is right.’ So then John baptized him. After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my beloved Son, and I am fully pleased with him.'”
Jesus did not wait until he felt like it was the right time for him to be baptized. He immediately obeyed God’s desire for his life: to be publicly baptized. What a great example to us!
When we learn how to obey God immediately, things just go much more smoothly. Learning how to live life based on trusting in God and obedience to His Word, rather than how we feel, is critical to pleasing Him with our lives.
In your walk with Christ so far, what about Him do you love or appreciate the most? Stop now and thank Him for the things you appreciate about your relationship with Him.
Also, take the time to thank Him for loving you and for showing you how life is to be lived!
I’m praying for you this week!
