Weekend Plunge: The Power of Your Story

On September 11th at Captain William Clark Park, we’ll be baptizing in the river! In the weeks leading to that, we invite you to read these weekly devotionals to help you prepare to celebrate baptisms – or get baptized yourself! If you want to get baptized, or if you want to share the story of your own baptism, please email us.

At Real Life, we believe in the power of testimony – that’s why we have a whole Vimeo channel featuring people sharing the stories of how Christ has worked in their lives. We’ve recently begun incorporating these stories into our annual outdoor baptisms, and here’s why:

  1. They encourage listeners. Before we start baptizing people, we’ll have a time of sharing. Anyone who’s been baptized before and wants to talk about how the decision impacted their life is welcome to share! Someone who’s undecided or thinks baptism isn’t right for them at that time may be encouraged by your story. If you feel God calling you to share, you could very well change someone’s life that day!
  2. They affirm believers. Romans 10:9-10 says, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” Getting baptized as an important step, but it’s not a free ticket to coast through the rest of your faith journey. Baptism is just the beginning! If your baptism began or renewed your connection with Christ, it’s important to your own faith that you speak up about it. You can read more about the importance of declaring your faith publicly here.
  3. They bring us closer to each other and to Him. The more we talk openly and honestly about our faith journeys, both the good times and the challenging, the easier it is for all of us to walk in community with Christ. Baptism isn’t a silver bullet to a perfect life – we don’t expect anyone to testify to that! But we do want to hear how your faith gave you courage during a tough time, or consoled you, or changed your world view, or softened your heart, or any other way God has been at work in or through you!

So come join us at Cottonwood Beach. Sign up today if you want to get baptized. Invite your friends and family. Porayerfully consider sharing your baptism story! We always love to hear what God has done at Real Life!
