Want To See Our Future Home?

Hi Real Life family! Have you been looking forward to seeing the new building? Here’s your chance! Real Life is invited to meet us at 8100 Mill Plain Boulevard at 10am on Saturday the 18th for a work day helping to clean out some rooms, remove some walls, and prepare the space for the remodel. Plus, staff and leaders will periodically walk you through the building to hear about all the awesome things we have planned for it! Whenever you’re able to stop by, find a staff member or leader and they’ll get you set up for a tour!

We’re incredibly excited to share our plans with all of you, but we also want to recognize that this is a difficult time for the current church using that building. While we are doing everything we can to enable them to continue functioning as an independent church, they are understandably feeling mourning for the loss of their church in its original form. When we visit, we want to be empathetic and respectful of their church legacy in the same way we’d want an incoming church to be respectful of ours. Let’s make this a day to celebrate growth and change while still being gracious!

Kids are welcome at this work day, but they will need to stay close to and work with their parents. Bring work gloves, and if you want to help remove some walls, bring safety goggles and your demolition tool of choice!

Update 1/2/2018: We have accepted an offer on the current property! We will remain in this building for a while, while we finalize architectural plans.

Update 11/20/17: Thanks for all your help at our first work day on Saturday! We removed the first few walls, filled a huge dumpster, and got to introduce our church community to their future home. Stay tuned for the next work day! In the meantime, please continue to be in prayer for this process!

Update 10/5/17: We are continuing talks with the building’s past owners about how we can host them and help them continue to meet as an independent church. Real Life staff are meeting with their leadership teams and our architects and designers to decide on how to make best use of the building for our various ministries and activities.

Update 8/31/17: We will officially sign paperwork and take ownership of the property on Wednesday! Now we can begin designing for the remodel, which will take around 3 months, and look at how to best use the new space (which is 3x what we currently have). We are still grateful for this amazing answer to our prayer for more space to change lives. Real Life Owners, thank you for voting yes to move forward with this opportunity! This is where the fun part begins!

Update 7/23/17: The final paperwork is in process at the bank; please be in prayer for that to go smoothly. We’re also in talks with an architect who will create a design to improve usability inside the building!

Update 7/19/17: We are still in the process of getting the title; here’s a video update from Jeff:

Update 5/8/17: Real Life is moving into a larger building! We’re in the process of obtaining the title.

God On the Move: The Next Steps

On May 21, Real Life voted to take an opportunity to move into a new, larger church facility on Mill Plain. In the time since that vote, all the necessary paperwork to transfer the title of the new property to Real Life has been completed. We’re now working with a lawyer to submit all the required items to the title company, and we hope to have the title within 30 days.

After that, things get a little more fun and interesting: we’ll be contracting with an architect and designers to help us shape our vision for the new building and develop floor plans and more. This is a great opportunity to maximize space in the new building and to finally create things like a dedicated youth space and fellowship hall that we’ve never had the ability to offer before!

We would love to have you join us in prayer as we move forward in this amazing opportunity:

1) Pray for the sale of the property. We have had positive first steps in our meetings with developers. Pray for bounty, for wise land use on the part of the developers, and for a smooth sale process.

2) Pray for funding for closing costs. We will need about $200,000.

God is leading the way in this adventure and we can’t wait to see how He moves next!

God on the Move: The Votes Are In

i5bridgeThank you for gathering this morning and helping us determine the direction of Real Life! We’re grateful for your patience and your enthusiasm over the last couple of weeks. The votes are all counted: fully 100% voted “yes” to move to the new building! Thank you for choosing to trust in His works and being willing to change and grow! We’re so excited to see how God is going to move next!

God on the Move: The Moving Cloud

One of the verses that has shaped 2017 for us is Numbers 9:22-23:

22 Whether the cloud stayed above the Tabernacle for two days, a month, or a year, the people of Israel stayed in camp and did not move on. But as soon as it lifted, they broke camp and moved on. 23 So they camped or traveled at the Lord’s command, and they did whatever the Lord told them through Moses.

Throughout 2015, we prayed for God to move in us, for us, and through us so that we could learn more about Him and share how He has changed our lives. Last year, we prayed for double portion: double the people attending on Sundays, double the people choosing to align their lives with Christ, double the involvement and willingness to grow. Now, in 2017, we’re seeing those prayers continue to be answered in the form of this new church space we have an opportunity to move into.

We just wanted to say thanks for coming to the meeting on Wednesday, and thanks for being patient with us! We hope the meeting answered your questions, but if you have more, or couldn’t make it to the meeting, feel free to email us. We also hope you will join us Sunday because both services will incorporate your chance to vote on this move!

We’ll leave you with this word from Karadee, whose family has been connected to the Real Life property for generations:

“Having been a part of this church my whole life, literally helping build our little white box, I have a lot of emotional attachments to the property and many memories here. I have all sorts of reasons to say we should stay. However, I have reminded myself that the church is the people, not a structure, and we are supposed to go where God leads us.   God is answering our prayer as a church in a BIG way and we need to go where he’s calling us to go. My entire family and I are so excited for the opportunity he’s providing for us to move and the opportunity to continue to share Christ with our community.”

We’re thankful for the ways God has blessed us over the years, and we’re excited to see what He does next! See you Sunday!
